Edmund Wade Davis CM is a Colombian-Canadian anthropologist, ethnobotanist, author, and photographer whose work has focused on worldwide indigenous cultures, especially in North America and South America and particularly involving the traditional uses and beliefs associated with psychoactive plants.
He is named by the NGS as one of the Explorers for the Millennium and has been a recipient of numerous awards such as The Explorers Medal, the highest award of the Explorers Club (2011), and more. In 2012 he received the David Fairchild Medal for botanical exploration. His book, Into the Silence, was awarded the $30,000 2012 Samuel Johnson Prize, the most prestigious award for literary nonfiction in the English language.
